First day in France

I’m here!

I caught my plane to Bordeaux this morning and was able to watch the sunrise as we flew – so beautiful, pictures don’t do it justice! The plane was crazily very empty yet soooo many crying children.. Not fun at 7am.. What made it worse is that many of these children were also confidently switching between french and english making me pine for their language skills 😦

This is the sight that greeted me of the plane, Bordeaux airport is full of these giant wine bottles! Haha

I caught the bus into Bordeaux and collected my train ticket and youth card (for train discounts). I waited for my train in true Inter Rail style, eating McDonalds, stealing their wi-fi, surrounded by my piles of luggage.

The train ride to Perigueux is is an hour an a half, so not too long really! On this journey I realised I have been saying Perigueux wrong all this time, woops. Karine (figured out the name situation) was waiting at the station holding a cute little sign with my name on it! She brought me back to her house where I will be staying for the next few nights. Another Primary assistant is also staying here so it’ll be nice to get to know each other/have company 🙂

After a nap (I only got like 3 hours sleep before travelling last night) we headed into town to have a look around. Perigueux is much larger than I expected but also still so pretty, there are buildings from all sorts of eras, tiny windy streets, large churches, and it sits right on the Dordogne river 🙂

Karine talked me through my timetable when we got home, i’ll be working Monday, Tuesday and Thursday every week. One school is in Perigueux, one is in a neighbouring town and for the rest of my time I will be doing video calls with the more rural schools! I’m not quite sure how this is going to work and neither is Karine but we will see. I will also be recording me reading lots of stuff for them to use as resources haha!

We spent the rest of the evening relaxing, eating and drinking home made wine!

Tomorrow we are going to cycle around town and then go to a food festival! Yummmm
